Full support for earlier detection

In the first trimester, our assays – PAPP-A, free hCGß, PlGF and AFP – provide effective screening for aneuploidy and other complications of pregnancy. The markers can be used as part of the combined (PAPP-A, free hCGß) or expanded combined (PAPP-A, free hCGß, PlGF and AFP) model when ultrasound is available or the 1T QUAD biochemistry-only model. Our dried blood spot (DBS) assay is also optimized for first trimester. 

In the second trimester, our assay solutions support all second trimester screening models: 2T Double, 2T Triple and the 2T Quad test.

1T QUAD – biochemistry only screening for first trimester

PerkinElmer is the only company to offer four CE-marked assays – PAPP-A, free hCGß, PlGF and AFP – for first trimester screening of Down syndrome.

When combined, these assays provide reliable screening for common aneuploidies in the first trimester even in the absence of nuchal translucency (NT) measurement (Huang et al. 2015).

With the 1T QUAD, you can achieve similar screening performance already in the first trimester as with the 2T Quad in the second trimester (Johnson et al. 2013).

Early prenatal diagnosis

Contingent screening is used to divide pregnant women into three risk categories based on first trimester screening. Women in the high-risk category are immediately offered a diagnostic test, while women at low risk of pregnancy complications require no further testing. Women with a risk between the two cut-offs undergo integrated testing in the second trimester.

Contingent screening is also a cost-effective way to select women in the medium risk category for cfDNA testing if the use of NIPT is limited by cost or availability. If ultrasound testing is not readily available, 1T QUAD can be used as the first-tier screening solution for aneuploidy and pre-eclampsia, with women in the medium risk category being referred to NT measurement.
